It is true that the different types of decreased sound tolerance conditions are, in general, poorly defined and the lines between them blurry. Hyperacusis? Loudness recruitment? Misophonia? Phonophobia? Sensory overload in noise? This paper aims to provide reference data for two questionnaires: for the noise sensitivity questionnaire and the hyperacusis questionnaire, particularly including the veteran population in the US. Given the general low level of research into sound sensitivity, despite the sizeable impact it can have on an individual’s ability to function in daily life, any cohesive study which adds to the efficacy of diagnosis or management pathway should be highlighted.
