You have ear protection, but are you using it properly? What are the risks over time? The design of standard earplugs has changed a lot in a decade. Earplug attenuation did reduce over time but still remained safe, however the test period was only two hours. Although variations were small if extrapolated, it is easy to see how standard shapes could be more unreliable over the wear period. The test-retest variability of this standard in-ear noise protection was good but perhaps not the most comfortable over time. Noise protection was used most effectively with appropriate training. So, if you are going to facilitate an environment with good use of ear protection, the how and why are important.
