This is a well-written and illustrated surgical atlas of paediatric otolaryngology by authors who are senior and experienced paediatric otolaryngology head and neck surgeons working at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. This text is a comprehensive and concise step-by-step approach to performing the majority of surgical procedures in children with disorders in the head and neck.
The book is divided into five sections: ‘Ear’, ‘Nose’, ‘Pharynx and oral cavity’, ‘Endoscopic sinus surgery’ and ‘the Neck’ for ease of referencing. Each chapter is well organised and maintains a standard format consisting of a named surgical procedure, its indications, relevant preoperative evaluation, the operative technique described in surgical steps including the anaesthetic method of choice and the complications. The text within each chapter is followed by clear and well-illustrated drawings of each surgical step for every procedure, providing better understanding for the trainee.
I recommend this book as an excellent guide for trainees and fellows in paediatric otolaryngology. Equally, it is an excellent and succinct reference for the practising otolaryngologist for infrequently performed procedures.
