This book is aimed at specialist trainees and consultants with an interest in improving their knowledge and understanding of this traditionally obscure area of otolaryngology. There are very comprehensive chapters on anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system along with a superb chapter on vestibular testing including how results are clinically applicable, which is refreshing to see in a textbook such as this!

The subsequent chapters comprise all the more commonly encountered clinical diagnoses along with the rare conditions and are clinically relevant and applicable. The book has sections covering balance disorders in children and adolescents as well as the elderly, all of which has great clinical importance.

Of particular interest and usefulness is a chapter on psychological morbidity, which is often overlooked by other texts and is paramount in the holistic approach to the management of all balance patients.

This book brings the entire subject right up to date including a chapter on the future of the specialty, with the evolution of vestibular implants.

Overall, this is a high-quality, comprehensive book for those wanting to know how to practically manage balance patients in the modern world and represents good value for money at around the £100 price mark. All I would add is that if each chapter could have a clinical example and typical case, plus some questions and answers, it would have scored a 5/5.
