The inaugural Patrick (Pat) Bradley Trainee Scholarship was launched at the recent regional East Midlands Cadaveric Dissection Course. It is named in honour of Professor Pat Bradley’s commitment and dedication to the speciality. Professor Bradley is the Emeritus Professor of Head and Neck Surgery in Nottingham and one of the greatest authorities on head and neck surgery in the UK.
This scholarship was created to support the professional development of promising trainees in the East Midlands region. After considering applications for the award, the panel unanimously agreed for Alex Charlton to be the first recipient of this prestigious award. Alex is an ST7 registrar on the East Midlands rotation and currently works at Royal Derby Hospital.
The scholarship will enable Alex to visit the world-class Head and Neck Surgery Unit led by Professor Johan Fagan in Cape Town, South Africa. This unit is renowned for its pioneering work in complex head and neck surgical procedures, offering a unique opportunity for exposure to advanced techniques and clinical practices in a setting with limited resources. Alex is eager to learn from Professor Fagan’s team and add to his own surgical knowledge and expertise.
