The Moscow Otolaryngology Masterclass, arranged by the Russian FMBA, took place in the Federal Scientific Clinical Centre of Otorhinolaryngology in Moscow, directed by Professor Daikhes. This event was free to attend.
Two classes were running simultaneously. The first, ‘Dissection of temporal bone, lateral skull base and neck’ was attended by 60 participants from different countries. The invited speakers, Professor Profant, General Secretary of IFOS, talked about surgical tactics in different cases of temporal bone cholesteatoma and Professor Lesinskas from Lithuania presented on auditory tube dysfunction: methods of surgical treatment. The Class Director, Professor Diab’s lectures were on temporal bone, infratemporal fossa and neck surgical anatomy and cochlear implantation followed by a live surgical session and about 10 hours of hands-on practice sessions with cadaver material.
The other masterclass with international participation, ‘Modern laryngeal surgery’, was conducted under the leadership of Professor Nazmudinov and attended by another 60 participants. The theoretical part of the masterclass included lectures of invited speakers, Professor Puxeddu (Italy), Professor Sandu (Switzerland) and Professor Negm (Egypt), as well as the centre staff of Professors Mudunov, Soldatskiy, Nazmudinov, Polyakov, Vavin, Magomedova, Gusenov, Ryazanov, Osipenko and Sorokin. During the live surgery session, participants had a chance to discuss details including indications, contraindications, possible complications and effective approaches for using modern equipment. Then training sessions for practical skills were held on biological models, applying endoscopic and laser technologies.
The next masterclass will be 16-18 September 2019 in the same centre.
