In the famous historical city of Muscat, capital of Oman, the two-day ENT Update 2023 Conference was held alongside pre- and post-conference teaching and training courses organised by the ENT Division, Department of Surgery, Sultan Qaboos University (4–10 December 2023). Chaired by Professor Rashid Alabri, the event brought together prominent experts including basic scientists, clinical specialists and researchers. It proved to be a productive platform to share insights into clinical data, experiences and techniques, as well research findings that advance our fund of knowledge.
The programme was packed full of renowned speakers in all ENT subspecialities. On these two days, more than 70 speakers from around the world celebrated advancements, shared knowledge and fostered collaboration with more than 350 attendees from specialists, nurses, students and technicians.
Of particular note were the keynote lectures: ‘The use of in-situ simulation for the development of patient care pathways in ENT Surgery,’ by Professor Hisham Khalil (UK), ‘Functional or radical cholesteatoma surgery: a scientific approach,’ by Mr Asad Qayyum (UK), ‘The use of simulation in audiology education and related fields,’ by Associate Professor Ahmed Al Anazi (KSA) and ‘Facial reanimation,’ by Dr Rakhna Araslanova (USA).
Immersing delegates in a wealth of information and stimulating face-to-face discussions that will fuel their professional growth, the conference was an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and new ideas, catch up with old friends and make new ones – beside taking the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful city of Muscat and enjoy the traditional Omani hospitality.
