Following the successful European Masterclasses in Berlin and Lausanne, Bucharest was the venue for the 4th European ENT Masterclass®, pushing the frontiers of the free training platform to the Eastern edge of the continent. The venue chosen by Professor Zainea, the Coordinator for Europe, was perhaps the most stunning to date. The Palace of Parliament in Bucharest is the largest marble building on earth, completed in 1997. The President of the Romanian ENT Society, Prof Serban Bertesteanu and the Society members provided generous support and hospitality to the ENT Masterclass team in making this a successful event.

The day started off with a welcome from Prof Viorel Zainea and Shahed Quraishi, Director of ENT Masterclass®, in one of the 23 Majestic halls of the palace. There were 300 delegates from 11 countries across Europe and a high-profile International Faculty. Codruta Neumann, Anastasia Rachmanidou and Shak Saeed started off the session with talks on paediatric airways, allergy and CP angle tumours. Peter Rea, Milan Stankovic and Nashaidh Patil followed with talks on the otosclerosis, facial nerve and otological emergencies. The session ended with a lively panel discussion moderated by Peter Rea and the delegates were glued to their seats till 6pm. The catering matched the splendour of the venue and the delegates were treated to a generous multinational hot lunch. The day ended with a dinner for the faculty at an authentic Romanian restaurant.
Day two saw the Rhinologists and Head and Neck faculty keeping the delegates at the edge of their seats with high octane talks by Hesham Saleh, Anshul Sama, Silviu Albu, Razvan Hainarosie, Sanjai Sood, Wale Olarinde, Rehman Khan, Viorel Zainea and Ahmet Ikiz. The event concluded with an exciting head and neck panel discussion, moderated by Sanjai Sood.

The following day, the faculty were treated to a road trip to Bran Castle of Dracula fame across 180 kilometres of beautiful countryside, into Transylvania. Based on the feedback, the two-day course would easily qualify as the best Masterclass ever on many counts: delegate attendance, venue, topics and hospitality. Thanks to Prof Zainea, the two co-organisers, Mr Mahmoud Daoud and Professor Razvan Hainarosie and the volunteer local trainees for their hard work and warm hospitality.

The result of this outstanding event was that ENT MasterclassV has chosen Bucharest as the venue for the 1st ENT Masterclass® ‘World Congress’ to be a free event to be held at the Palace of Parliament on the 21-22nd of August 2020. A must for the diaries for all Otolaryngologists. Watch this space!
