The 3rd Royal National Ear Nose & Throat Advanced Otology & Auditory Implants Course is a unique 2-day symposium aimed at Consultant Otologists & Auditory Implant surgeons, senior Otology trainees and SAS doctors. This unique event will run as a programme of interactive case discussions complemented by high quality operative videos covering a breadth of key issues and current management dilemmas.

The 2 days will be split into Advanced Otology (Day 1) and Auditory Implants (Day 2). The following themes will be covered, with extended content in panel discussions.

  • COM in adult and paediatric patients
  • Subtotal Petrosectomy
  • Lateral temporal bone resection and tegmen defect repair
  • Passive middle ear hearing reconstruction: ossiculoplasty
  • Stapes surgery
  • Management of vestibular schwannoma
  • Management of semi-circular canal dehiscence syndrome
  • Balance disorders
  • Radiology session
  • Faculty Panel with case based discussions (both days)
  • Facial nerve complications and how to manage them
  • Decision making in bone conduction surgery
  • Decision making in middle ear implant surgery
  • Decision making in cochlear implant surgery
  • Cochlear implantation in inner ear malformations and non-idiopathic hearing loss

This interactive course, now in its 3rd run, has been shaped by requests from delegate feedback, making it as relevant as possible to the demands of today's Otologists & Implant surgeons. For the first time, we feature sessions dedicated to temporal bone radiology and AVM for otologists, delivered by expert speakers.

Delegates will be invited to share challenging cases they have been involved in (anonymised information collected prior to the course to facilitate organising). Those cases with the most educational value will be chosen by the faculty for further discussion and debate.
