Bucharest’s Palace of Parliament was a perfect setting to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of ENT Masterclass. Two days of academic excellence saw over 250 delegates and faculty from all across Europe and beyond. The event was organised with the support of the Romanian ENT Society and Carol Davila Medical University, Bucharest.
The day started with the co-chairmen, Prof Viorel Zainea and Prof Shahed Quraishi OBE, welcoming the delegates and faculty. The co-organisers, Prof Razvan Hainrosie and Dr Mahmoud Daoud, moderated the proceedings, which started with a masterclass on paediatric otolaryngology by Michael Kuo and Paula Coyle. Soon the otologists were in full swing with talks from Emma Stapleton, Richard Irving, Asad Qayyum, Abir Bhatacharrya, Hala Kanona and Dan Cristian Gheorghe.

The academics on day one ended on a high note but there was much more to follow. The 250 delegates and faculty were treated to a free memorable dinner, music and dance to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of ENT Masterclass. Prof Zainea, Quraishi, Razvan and Daoud did the honours by cutting the 20th anniversary cake with a sword!

Day two of the Masterclass kicked off with the rhinology masters presenting state of the art lectures on the finer points of sinus surgery, rhinoplasty, nasal valve correction, artificial intelligence and much more. Prof Hesham Saleh conducted an interesting panel discussion to close the session. The last session was by the head and neck team, Prof Oliver Kaschke presented his experience of parapharyngeal tumors. He was followed by Viorel Zainea, Peter Clarke, Richard Oakley, Shahed Quraishi and Shayan Ansari, who touched on current topics in head and neck surgery. There was a special poster presentation competition for the trainees and six lucky finalists received 500 Euros each as travelling grants from ENT Masterclass. The event was supported by a very generous trade exhibition and this partnership has allowed the organisers to keep the academic course free for delegates.
The key learning points of this academic event are the strong interactive component provided by the specialised panels which focused on challenging cases, facilitating in-depth discussion and practical application, and as well as the state-of-the-art exposures provided by leading experts in otorhinolaryngology. Another important aspect has been the great opportunity for trainees and specialists to connect with experts from every field of otorhinolaryngology, providing a valuable networking and learning experience.

The ENT Masterclass World Congress has established itself as a must go free annual event for trainees across Europe and the world. The enthusiasm of the organisers and participants promises an even better show next year:
