Quetta, the capital of largest province of Pakistan was the location of the 29th National Conference of the Pakistan Society of Otorhinolaryngology (PSORL). Professor Zainullah Kakar and Dr Sher Zaman Mandokhail were Chairman and General Secretary of Conference respectively. The early winter meeting attracted around 400 registered delegates. Throughout the congress there were 63 free papers which covered all aspects of ENT and were presented in densely populated halls.
Three pre-congress hands-on workshops were scheduled. The topics covered were rhinoplasty, endoscopic otology and FESS. These workshops were arranged in CMH and FC hospitals. The participants were jubilant and satisfied at the end of workshops as master trainers have implanted them with hands-on techniques successfully.

The main body of the meeting was full of great talks from many international speakers.
Hassam El-Din Mahmoud Mohammed El-Bosraty, spoke on multiple issues that a rhinologist comes across in FESS. Scharukh M Jaslisi, an invited speaker from USA, spoke on management of well differentiated thyroid cancer, new approaches and challenges in skull base surgery. ‘From Microscope to Endoscope: An introduction to new Anatomy & role of Ear Endoscope in facilitating ear surgery’ was presented by Dr Nausheen Qureshi. She supported her invited presentation with excellent videos.

Prof Zakirullah spoke on management of parapharyngeal tumours through Transcervical approaches. Dr Changez Khan Jadun, from University Hospital North Midlands, UK, shared his experiences in the role of CT guided biopsies in deep seated lesions of the head and neck.
External Ethmoidectomies had been a standard treatment for Ethmoid diseases. Professor Najam ul Hasnainin mentioned in his presentation that 10% of such patients showed up with fungal infections. He further shared his experiences on how FESS has eliminated this outcome. Clinical Audit was his second topic. Clinical governance is accountable for improving quality of our services, Prof Najam continued.
Gala Dinner was in a century old traditional Quetta Club. Gold Medals were garlanded to deserved ones, selected by a senior committee. Prof Amjad also known for his literary write ups, presented a humorous poem. This filled the audience with laughter.
A peaceful, organised general body meeting was the last event of this successful meeting. The new cabinet of PSORL was elected. The next conference location was also decided by the general body. It will next take place in Islamabad.
