This year, for the first time, the Balkan Congress was a joint meeting with the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and the Confederation of European Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck.
It was organised by the Macedonian Society of Otorhinolaryngology and the Balkan Society of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. The president was Associate Professor Frodita Jakimovska and the vice president was Professor Jane Netkovski from the University Clinic for Ear, Nose and Throat at Ss Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje.
This massive gathering was attended by over 400 participants, listening to 80 invited lecturers from around the world. The programme included keynote lectures, plenary sessions, round tables, video sessions, symposia and free papers. Experiences were exchanged in the fields of rhinology, allergology, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, endoscopic sinus surgery and skull base surgery, otology, audiology, cochlear implantation, laryngology, head and neck surgery, obstructive sleep apnoea, paediatric ENT and anaesthesiology in ENT.
During the activities, Professor Hormann of Germany and Professor Negm of Egypt received their honorary membership. Professor Hannah was elected as an honorary president.

Through rich and fruitful discussions, in the wonderful city of UNESCO heritage, with its beautiful Lake Ohrid, cultural and historical monuments, authentic and unique natural landscapes, the meeting was a great success and will remain a lasting inspiration for further meetings and new friendships, with new ideas and achievements.
The general assembly decided the next meeting would be in Antalya, Turkey under the presidency of Professor Metin Onerci.
