Run by Professor Gauthier Desuter and his Belgian team, this well-executed marriage of a stunning ski holiday and a truly educational conference is one to book!
As an ENT generalist, I was keen to enhance my laryngology knowledge and find some practical teaching, so when I discovered the location of this course was the super-stylish ski resort home of the late Roger Moore, I was sold.
I’m not a skier, but I am a fan of beautiful mountainscapes and designer shops, which Crans-Montana has in abundance. And for those that do ski, the programme was perfectly tailored to allow lots of play time, balanced out by robust teaching by some of the top laryngologists in Europe. The discussions were on topics including 'Management of Unilateral Vocal Fold Palsy,' 'Treatment of Sulcus,' 'Transoral Laser Surgery in Cancer' and the ever-controversial LPR.
The talks usefully highlighted the use of new and current devices and equipment with sponsored stands giving opportunities to trial and investigate Ventinova’s Tritube, Restech pH Testing and Blue Laser. Other than the evening cocktails and the lovely raclette dinner, one of my personal highlights was the final day’s practical workshops, which included closely instructed Montgomery Thyroplasty on some unsuspecting pig larynxes.
Provided you take appropriate spending money for a Swiss location, Winter days of Laryngology will not disappoint, and I will certainly be returning in the future.
